Students from the 4th grade of the Experimental Primary School of Florina studied the energy production of wind turbines during the 2022-2023 school year.

In our region (Western Macedonia) the last few years, an enormous transformation has taken place. Most of the coal power plants that are in the area are shut down and replaced by wind and parks. Our students used the information from the portals energy register and RAE to identify the wind parks in the area and learn about the new ones that are being built.

We also invited specialists to our school to talk to the students about energy production from wind and the technology behind the wind turbines, how they are made, and how they are transferred to the mountains where they are installed.

Our students created models of wind turbines from Lego bricks, and they also programmed simulations of wind turbines in the Scratch programming Environment. They created a video explaining what they have learned for the rest of the schools of our project, they presented their work to students and teachers from our school, and they also participated in the World Environment Day festival in Florina.
